Lately i have been reading through tons of books, some good, some less so. and i have been watching tons of books that are absolute winners when it involves the best-seller lists. These are the books being held high by publishers, books stores owners and authors as winners for them.

What I wanted to try to to was take a glance at these real winners and determine what that they had that the opposite books did not have . And what I acknowledged was quite a touch surprising. In fact, it'd change the way you think that about writing your book.

So, without further delay, here are some insights and what your book absolutely MUST have if it's getting to succeed...

What I'd like to say is that the amount one indicator of whether a book are going to be a hit is that the writing ability of the author. That's for fiction. For non-fiction, I'd like to say that the amount one indicator of whether that sort of book are going to be successful is that the originality of the knowledge offered to the reader.

I'd like to say that. i actually would. But that's just not what I found. I found tons of best-selling books that, well, either weren't that well written (especially the non-blockbusters) and tons of the non-fiction books touted by a lot of people to be, well, not that informative. kind of an equivalent old stuff but told with a replacement song and dance, or with a sprinkling of latest technology.

Ironically, I found a boatload of books (usually within the remainder bin) that basically sparkled if they were telling a story-some were pure poetry. Or they provide real insight and innovative strategies to the planet of how-to.

In short, if you think that content or creative ability is what is going to rocket your book to the highest of the charts, that's simply not the case. Mind you, it doesn't hurt. But it is not the panacea which will turn your writing attempt into a literary pension plan for both you and your family for generations to return .

Then, of course, we've the matter of 1 man's trash and another man's treasure. What one person declares is outstanding writing is another person's basis for satire, sarcasm and sadness. regardless of how good you (or your publisher) think you're , not most are getting to agree. Luckily, regardless of how bad you (or your prospective publisher) think you're , not most are getting to accept as true with that, either.

Content and artistic ability aren't the items that literary dreams are made from .

So what's the answer?

Well, for whatever reason, rightly or wrongly, great books rarely become great via obscurity or anonymity. In short, if nobody knows about your book, then nobody goes to understand about your book. Rare indeed is that the book that hides its light under a bushel then subsequently ignites a world of rave reviews. It just doesn't happen that way.

The more your book is promoted, the more notoriety, fame, publicity, recognition, buzz, call it what you'll . The more likely your book are going to be an impressive seller.

That's not hyperbole, that's just fact. And if you refuse to believe it, I can certainly understand your decision. But the earlier you engage and embrace this reality, the earlier you will have an enormous selling book. Now, someone possesses to try to to this work. You're probably thinking the publisher will lookout of this. Well, they'll certainly provides it their best shot, but they have a minimum of a dozen other worthy books that demand both their time and their resources.

No one goes to become your book's champion. That's your job. And if you are not up thereto , no problem. Just do not be upset when your book 'fails.'

You simply MUST do everything you most likely can to form as many of us conscious of your book as possible. Not everyone will buy. That's just the maths of things . But the more people that do realize your book, the more copies will move off the bookstore shelves.

You really must become a latter day P.T. Barnum when it involves promoting your book. And why shouldn't you! Your book may be a fine book. It tells an excellent story or gives wonderful information.

Of course, you'll be too shy to market your book aggressively. you'll see it as hucksterism, or demeaning. Frankly, I didn't realize your book had so little value in your eyes. I once knew a radio personality who, after writing a book, complained (on air) that he now had to travel across the country "flogging it." (That was the precise phrase he used.) Hey, if he has so little regard for his book, why should I cough up the cash to urge my very own copy?

So what is the one thing your book MUST need to succeed? YOU! You and every one your enthusiasm, your expertise, your wit, your charm, your personality, your excitement, your belief in your book and your undying passion for what you've got produced and your commitment that it'll be of monumental benefit to me and each potential reader (and buyer) out there.

If you've that, I swear you'll produce a variation on the local phonebook and have the lines for author signings stretching out the door. which may not be fair, which won't be just, but within the world of book writing, it is the way things are.
